The Surgical Technologist Registered Apprenticeship Program brings together major health care providers and training partners to educate and train the talent needed for the health care industry. Surgical technologists, also called operating room technicians, assist with operations. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors during surgeries.

The Surgical Technologist Registered Apprenticeship Program provides many opportunities for program participants:

  • Apprentices graduate with a 2-year Surgical Technologist Associate’s Degree and a National Certificate of Completion from the US Department of Labor.
  • The apprenticeship format allows participants to immediately apply their learning in a work setting.
  • Participants earn a wage while learning the skills to success in a high-demand career.
  • Participants will graduate with a job, often with little or no debt.

The application period has closed. Participating employers, Trinity Health, Corewell Health and University of Michigan Health-West, have decided to accept only current employees into the program.

If you are interested in other training opportunities, including healthcare, some of which may meet the criteria for scholarships, schedule an appointment with a West Michigan Works! Career Coach using this form.
