Discover Manufacturing, a partnership between West Michigan Works!, education providers, economic developers and manufacturers, celebrated Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 6. The national initiative started in 2012 to expose middle and high school students to job opportunities in manufacturing. In West Michigan, the day has stretched to a week and beyond.

To participate in Manufacturing Day, manufacturers host student tours to show them the opportunities that exist for successful careers in the industry. Michigan is the first state to have over 200 registered events on the national website.

This year, over twice as many manufacturers and educational institutions opened their doors to 5,700 West Michigan students. Students from over 50 schools visited over 165 host sites across West Michigan. On November 1, Discover Manufacturing will award three $500 scholarships to High School Seniors in our region pursuing a career in manufacturing in Michigan.

Additional activities will continue into the next few weeks. To learn more about Manufacturing Day and other sector initiatives visit http://discover-manufacturing.com/.
