John VanElst has worked in workforce development at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) for over 20 years and has focused on community engagement the last 10 years. John has served as project lead for several U.S. DOL grants and W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant projects. John leads a nationally recognized workforce training team that was acknowledge by the evaluation firm, SPR for outstanding examples of community-based projects that benefits all community members and employer partners. Currently as Dean for the School of Workforce Training, John oversees multiple programs that touched the lives of more than 25,000 people the last two years. He is intensely focused on helping people gain in-demand skills that lead to thriving careers.
