As the region’s workforce development agency, West Michigan Works! is dedicated to creating a diverse and qualified workforce. We do this by providing services that help companies recruit and retain talent and help job seekers get the skills and knowledge needed for today’s jobs.

Addressing West Michigan’s Talent Needs

We work closely with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and local economic development agencies to support companies who want to stay in West Michigan and grow our region’s economy and workforce. For example, Roskam Baking Company recently announced a capital investment of $85.2 million that will result in 238 new jobs at the company’s Kentwood facility (read more). West Michigan Works! will work with them to recruit for their expansion to meet their talent needs.

Through West Michigan Works! and the Going PRO Talent Fund, West Michigan employers received $9.5 million last year to assist in training, developing and retaining current and newly hired employees (read more).

A 2018 recipient of a Going Pro Talent Fund grant, ITW Drawform, is a growing manufacturer located in Zeeland, MI. The company employs just under 300 employees. They recognize that in order to obtain the desired workforce, they need to invest in training for their people.

ITW Drawform has seen business improve as a result of the training the grant funded. Their On Time Delivery rate increased from 97.3% to 98.5% and quality of parts produced has increased at the same time.

“Employees are creating high quality parts the first time and this is a direct result of their training.”
– Jilynn Koomen, Training & Technical Recruitment Coordinator at ITW Drawform
