West Michigan construction companies need qualified talent, and that need is only expected to grow. It is estimated that the construction industry will need 9,000 new employees each year in Michigan.
West Michigan Works! has partnered with multiple community organizations, employers and education providers to offer construction training programs for job seekers who want to start a new career in the high-demand industry.
Current Construction Training Opportunities
JobReady: Construction
The JobReady program is available in Muskegon and Grand Rapids. Both programs provide job seekers with entry-level, full-time positions. Therefore, participants can earn a pay check while learning the skills to succeed in a construction career.
Participants in the Muskegon program will work on the Mercy Health Medical Center construction project. Whereas Grand Rapids participants will work on the City of Grand Rapids Biodigester construction project. Both programs will give employees the work experiencing and skills needed for a career in one of many construction occupations.
Project Accelerate
Project Accelerate is a program specifically for adult women interested in a career in construction. The hands-on, career exploration program gives participants experience in construction, engineering, design and skilled trades.
The program meets eight hours a day, one day a week for seven weeks. Opportunities are available for summer 2018.
Get Started! Attend Workplace Excellence Training
The three-day Workplace Excellence workshop trains job seekers to succeed in the workplace with skills like effective communication, dependability and professionalism. Because of the importance of the skills learned in this workshop, program participants who attend all three days will receive a guaranteed interview in a construction training program.
