Certifications will allow Allegan health care facility to impact community for years to come

Ely Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was awarded $17,320 in Skilled Trades Training Funds (STFF) earlier this year.  The state funds, administered through Michigan Works!, help Michigan employers train and develop staff. West Michigan Works! representative, Michelle Krcatovich, recently presented an oversized check to the center’s leadership.

“As a recipient of Skilled Trades Training Funds we were able to hire thirteen full-time employees. These licensed staff members will play a significant role in the lives we serve in Allegan County.”

In addition to hiring new staff, the funds were used to certify two key staff. The director of nursing received wound care certification which will result in improvements in patient care and the clinical care coordinator has earned train the trainer status.

“Train the trainer is the ultimate gift that will keep on giving,“ said Kortman.“Ely can now offer a curriculum program to provide others with the training, knowledge and support they need to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.”  Ely graduated five CNAs last month and plans to do another training later this fall.

Ely Manor is one of eighteen Allegan County employers who were awarded funds totaling over $600,000.00 to develop staff.  Between them, 300 current full-time employees and 171 new full-time, permanent employees will be trained.

“We are thrilled with the amount of funding that West Michigan employers have been awarded. This a testament to how innovative and dedicated its employers are,” said Jacob Maas, CEO of West Michigan Works!. “They are committed to creating and retaining a skilled workforce and growing the region’s economy.”
